A Norwegian cardigan "Lusekofte" (ends with an "a" in Swedish) machine knitted wool and front black stripes made of velvet. I found it in a closet, never used, and wanted to make a virtual version before giving it away. The buttons on the real sweater is loosely fixed with a thread and the buttonholes is a knitted loop. I decided not to add the knitted buttonholes as they wont show behind the buttons.
The mesh is low poly and looks best with at least one level of subsurf.
I use the slot for displacement for the metal mask texture.
In Blender use the Solidify modifier with thickness about 3mm, fill rim and only rim to give the fabric some thickness.
The preview image is rendered in Blender Cycles.

Extraordinary !
Extraordinary! A precision and a hallucinating rendering. A thousand bravos.
Thank you :-)
One of my fastest work as I had an original to make it from and could reuse an older mesh. The fitness of the buttons is credit MargaretToigo http://www.makehumancommunity.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15584#p43256
