Makeup for the Ladies

Postby Arcadia » Mon Jan 30, 2012 4:39 pm

I've created some makeup - Textures for the Makehuman Ladies :D
The zip contains a psd and xcf layer file with Eyeliner, Eyeshadow, Lips, freckels and so on. Just copy them over your favourite Texture, play around with colors, mix or used them as a guide for your own creations, and finally save them under a new Name in the Skin folder.
Hope you like it ;)

You can download them here:

It would be a nice feature if MakeHuman allowed to add additional skin layers on top of each other, and for example let you adjust their opacity.

Nice, though, in my opinion the colors are a bit too bright. Maybe you could roll back the opacity a bit, make the underlying skin pattern shine through a bit more. That way it would look more like it is applied to the skin, rather than pasted on like a sticker. Maybe also try blurring and fading out the outer purple edges of the makeup a bit, they look a bit too sharp and perfect.

This feature already exists, but has yet to be documented and finished. It is used for example for the eyes library tab.

You define layers in an mhstx (subtexture) file as follows

[
{ 'txt': 'green-left.png', 'dst': (470, 1783) },
{ 'txt': 'green-right.png', 'dst': (1803, 1546) }
]

with txt (texture) an image file and dst (destination) the position it needs to be copied to. Several textures can be used in one layer to reduce the size. The reason this is not documented yet is because we are still working on it, so the format might still change. Also there is still a minor bug, the alpha channel overwrites instead of blends with the base texture, this will be fixed shortly.

The aforementioned bug has been fixed in svn, but the official exe still needs to be recompiled.

Maybe the makeup is a good way to demonstrate its use.
Do I understand it correctly that you place smaller PNGs on top of the original texture and specify their position? I suppose this way you avoid wasting space on a large texture with a lot of transparency (although maybe PNG would compress that very well)
So is one unit of PNGs between brackets handled as one single layer in MH or are those all separate layers?

one mhstx can contain several png's to reduce space yes, but they represent one layer.

Thx for your Comment - I Know, the makeup on the image is quite heavy, but only for demonstration-purposes.
You can change the Opacity, Colors & visibility of the layers, like you want to have it. You can use all Layers ( like in the image) or even one, maybe the Eyeliner or the Lips.

btw do you mind if i used your file for a skin template??

I have added a skin layer a leotard layer and a "BlackSwan" mask layer to the file.

It may not be high art but it does work fairly well.
