Licensing Question

Postby madiii » Tue May 10, 2011 4:33 am

Hi!
I have a doubt about the license.
I am using the makehuman models as the input to the application for the commercial purpose.
Can I get the license of the makehuman.

Please help me to get out the confusion.

Thanks,
Madiii.

You can use finished exported models (blend, obj, etc) in your program as you like. If you use code, the base mesh or morph targets, you need to release your product under the GPL3 or later. See https://sites.google.com/site/makehumandocs/licensing.

Hi!

I am a post graduate student working on a feasibility/demo project which has potential for commercialization. At this point we plan to use other commercial software for different parts of our project but we find makehuman to be the best for one piece of our project i.e. modeling 3D models. We prefer to make minor changes to makehuman python source code to meet our needs. I have read through the licensing requirements and being a student I am not absolutely clear if it answers my queries.

We are open to making changes to the source code and making it available to all under GPL3 licensing. But this change will be used only for a small piece of our project and my question is so do we have to make our entire project available to all under GPL3 :?:

Thanks for your patience.. :)

Thanks,
Madiii.

If you use the tool internally to export finished assets, you don't have to release the code.
If the tool ships with your product, you need to release the code of the tool.
If the tool is integrated with your product you need to release the code of the product as well.

Note that concerning data the same rules apply, both the base mesh and the morph targets are copyrighted, so only finished exported models are your own.
