Feature request: generate game skins/sprites

Postby Orisphera » Sat Apr 13, 2024 9:13 am

I have an idea of a program connected with MakeHuman. I'm not sure that I'm posting in the correct place because it's not exactly a feature of MH, but I don't know a better place to post it. Also, the idea is a bit weird. It's to generate player skins for games from MakeHuman models. This could be used to generate skins for such games as Minetest ones or some pixel art 2D ones. There would be a file format that describes the style. I'm also not sure if MH models are the right thing to generate the skins from; maybe there should be an extended version of the format so that one can, for example, make a style where the overalls have a texture that's some sort of continuation of the normal shirt texture (and the shirt is white).

You might want to have a look at Blender. It can do what you describe.

I though it would be easier from the MH models. Now I've searched for it and found a tutorial where the main part is using neither. Instead, it uses Stable Diffusion. To me, SD seems too advanced for this purpose. I think a simpler solution (not using NNs) should be possible at least for some of them. I think I can make one for Minetest skins by matching the names of properties and choosing the ones that are somehow the most similar. i'm not sure if I can do the latter, though

Stable Diffusion is an AI bot. It is not the right tool.

Blender is exactly the one you need. Make Human can edit skins, but Blender can actually make them.

Youtube has a fark tard of useful tuts on Blender...

Also, the GIMP is nice for texture handling and making.

Oh, and it is easier if you do this on a computer, not a fondleslab. I do not think Blender is mobe friendly. And the bigger screen, keyboard and mouse make things MUCH better. You can use Apple, Windows or Linux. Phones festooned with AI and other crap are just not the right tools for making this kind of art.
