Making a younger model

Postby Olivia » Wed Aug 04, 2010 6:21 pm

Hello. Not sure if many people here are familiar with the game Second Life but they have announced that soon you will be able to import your own models for characters. I and many others roleplay kids there and would hope to be able to use the makehuman model in game when they allow it. Two questions:

1. Would there be any licensing issue for doing this?
2. Is it possible to change any settings to make a model younger than the lowest age setting the sliders allow. Most people that RP kids in Second Life RP younger than 12.

Thanks!

just to put my paws in makehuman could be the "standard" tool to make mesh avatars for Secondlife if

1 the "race" part gets fixed/completed
2 DAE export starts to work
3 Younger avatars are supported say down to 4 years old (i think you can do it with detail sliders btw)

The Kids community in Secondlife has 2 very important parts a project likes

1 they TALK and Talk and Talk in detail
2 they have money lots of money (have you seen how much money kids stuff costs in SL)

oh and if you want beta testers well talk to Koffee and you will have a few dozen at your "doorstep" in about 2 days

I remember wondering around the kids community... well one part) of it as a kid there, but I don't remember anyone talking.... What do you mean by talk in detail?

Wow didn't know kids in SL wre so rich. That's kind of odd and interesting.

okay so the real rich part comes from the models and those that have "daddies" that are rich but have you looked at what kids clothes cost??

ive played around with makehuman for a bit and ive got a decent girl model that just needs a few tweaks and the "race mixer" to be enabled.

Not sure what robert is talking about "rich daddies?". Anyway,..people rp entire families in SL and the kids are all ages from 2 to teens. Parents do buy their kids stuff sometimes but the kids aren't really kids...they have their own money.

I make clothes there and am working on their beta of Collada import (they refer to as "mesh"). I think the Makehuman mesh is way too high polygon for a real time game like SL but it might be a good starting point.

Ah yes.

I rolepayed as two characters... a brother and sister. Oneday I was in the kids area and someone was like "Where are your parents?" I'm like "...parents???..." Like I had no idea what they were. lol that was kinda funny.

Anyway, a good polyreduction tool should do the trick. There's a really nice one called Balancer which is pretty darn cool and does a really nice job.

The only thing I don't quite get is how to get the reduced mesh back into the skeliton... or vise versa.
