License question: ergonomics application

Postby LucStPierre » Wed Nov 17, 2010 3:33 pm

I have a licensing question.

We are doing an ergonomics application where the user can test his product/environment with an human to look how they interact together.  We would like to have a skin rigged on our skeleton using a (multiple) MakeHuman created mesh. To do so, we would import the skin in Blender (using mhx plugin) to prepare the skin/model (bone name, clothing texture, hair, etc....).

The user will have the possibility to choose between predefined set of static meshes (woman, man, obese, child, etc...). All of which will have been pre-generated using MakeHuman.

The only part which will not be from MakeHuman will be the size ratio of each rig bone. The anatomy that will determine those size ratios use an anthropometric database with some regional, ethnic group and gender specific characteristics. In other words, each bone will have a scaling applied, depending on some anthropometric database. This will be the only "dynamic" aspect of the use of the skin.

Although the user can export his scene to several CAD format, the exported human will be entirely static (no rig, weight map or bone: just a bunch of vertices).

It's this compatible with your licensing?
- If so, what should we be careful about to stay within its bound?
- If not, is there an arrangement possible? What should we modify within our workflow to make it fit in your license?

Thanks!

Hmm..if the software mimic MH (for example, using a lot of predefined sets), it have to be released under GPL 3.
On the contrary, if you use only few sets, and the software is very different from MH, you can just apply the essentials described here:

Thanks Manuel, we will used only a very few predefined set for the moment.
