Editing Pose in Blender 2.5

Postby karla » Mon Oct 18, 2010 4:23 pm

I hope no-one objects to my asking this here rather than in the Blender Artists forum.

I am getting familiar with the Blender pose process (thanks joepal) and want to "freeze" the pose so I can carry out mesh edit with Blender. I plan to create a high resolution static portrait and would like to make minor changes to the model say, eye modifications, teeth asymmetry etc.

Changing from Object to Edit mode loses the pose and resets the model to the imported MH setting. I can't find a method of working on the new posed mesh.

Select the mesh and open the armature modifier under the modifiers tab. There are three buttons at the middle top: a camera, an eye and a cube with four verts. Select the cube. A fourth button appears - a triangle. Select that too. Now you can edit the pose.

If you are sure that you are done posing, you can also apply the armature modifier. Or if the mesh has shapekeys, apply it as a shape and turn up the strength of the Armature shape to 1.0.

Neat. I've tried the Armature Modifier method and I can get at the teeth and eyes. Thanks ThomasL. Look out for my (... slow ..) progress in Blender Artists http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=198506

Eight months later and going round the buoy again .........

This time I'm working with MH alpha 6 and Blender 2.57 and just had a similar problem but unfortunately the method didn't seem to work.

An alternative method is to pose the model as desired using the MHX rig, export the selected body object as a Wavefront .obj then import the same .obj body into another Blender file. Edit the posed mesh at leisure.
