MH 1.1.0 OSX Proxy files

Postby dickg » Thu Sep 29, 2016 7:47 pm

I have downloaded some proxy files with extensions .proxy, .obj, and .thumb - I have placed them within the folder user/Documents/MakeHuman/v1/Data/proxymeshes with the consistent sub-folder name, but MH does not seem to pick them up at all. I have also tried putting them in the similar folder within the MH application package folder with the same result. I notice that the built-in proxies use file extensions .mhpxy, .npz & .thumb.

Where am I going wrong?

I think you are missing your OSX user name in the middle of your path. Let's say your OSX login name is dickg. Then the proper place for proxy materials on OSX would typically be:
/Users/dickg/Documents/MakeHuman/v1/Data/proxymeshes

Also, 'user/...' should be '/Users/...' i think

.mhpxy, .npz are compiled extensions and will be created at run time if your raw materials are found by MakeHuman. My guess is that if you are starting with good assets, and you get your path fixed, you'll see these soon enough. The .thumb file is a 256 x 256 bit icon file that provides a preview of the proxy asset. This can be created by you and saved in .png format with the extension changed from .png to .thumb using a program like GIMP or Photoshop. The proxy should still work even without the .thumb file. Without the .thumb the right preview panel will contain a blank '?' image.

Good luck!

Yes, have the files in the correct users/username/documents/MakeHuman/v1/data/proxymeshes path

I have tried the female_muscular_simplified_genitals proxy, and downloaded the .obj, .proxy, and .thumb files. When downloading those, OSX saved them with .txt & .png extensions added - I removed those additional extensions.

Even when I put the folder within the Makehuman package files it still doesn't see them.

Seems I needed to go into the detailed file info for each downloaded file in OSX and sort them out - now succeeding in making them work. Thanks.

FWIW, I just tried the female_muscular_simplified_genitals proxy from community assets on OSX 10.11.6, and it worked just fine with minimal fuss. My procedure was as follows:
1. Click "user contributed assets" and "proxies and topologies" from the community website.
2. Clicked female muscular with simplified genitals
3. Command click (right click) each of the 3 files in female muscular with simplified genitals and chose "save link as" then saved to downloads folder
4. In downloads folder shift selected the 3 files and copied them
5. Went to /Users/username/Documents/MakeHuman/v1/data/proxymeshes/ and pasted the 3 files
6. Started MakeHuman and went to Geometries | Topologies and observed the proxy icon in the right panel

You might see if these steps work for you with other proxies. No additional editing or extension changes necessary.
