Micro-editting in MH ?

Postby jean-mie » Thu Aug 04, 2016 12:24 am

Hello everyone !
A few times ago, I saw a video of an older version of Make Human ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWUWdD3Uflw ), and in this video, the guy was able to use the "micro" option in the modelling tab. You know, that option that allow you to deform the base mesh directly by clicking on the model, without sliders.

And now that I have downloaded MH I don't see the micro edditing. Is it hidden somewhere, or was it removed by the devs ?
I searched on the forum but did't find any topic talking about that. I'm annoyed cause I wanted to bring some asymmetry on the nose and on the mouth.

If it's been removed I guess there's a way to finish the work on zBrush or blender... but in the video, micro-edit seemed very handy...

looking at the video i think about 40-60% of the code in MakeHuman has been replaced so that version is massively outdated

now you may want to grab the copy of MakeHuman Portable (if you are on windows) because it does include some plugins that will help in getting things setup with blender

That and the GUI have been rewritten and the base mesh also updated from that video it looks to be Alpha 5 version which is about six releases ago. Most of the face morphs have left /right instances so asymmetry is actually quite easy though as you mention the mouth and nose do not.

Enjoy the Choice :)

The micro editing was indeed abandoned many years ago. It was a bit too long ago that I'd remember all the details, but if I'm right the general reasoning was that it was both out of scope for the purpose of MH, and too hard to use for being useful in most cases.

The pipeline niche for MH is to be able to quickly provide a basic character and then hand it over to the next tool in the pipeline, such as a proper 3d modeler, for fine tuning.

While the micro editing worked in principle, MH would never be able to provide the same quality of mesh editing that a real 3d editor could, short of adding a massive amount of complexity in the code.

Again if I remember it right, there was a large technology shift involved where functionality had to be ported from one code base to another. Since the micro editing feature was largely be outside the scope, it wasn't prioritized for porting. So it wasn't so much removed as never re-implemented.
