Hi Déesse,

did you test the version from tuxfamily? Then there is probably a bug in the MH-code. I didn't do much testing with MH-Portable since everything is very very slow on my netbook. Still waiting for my notebook to return.

Yes the tuxfamily-download. Everything else seems to work fine, no difference to the installed MH :)

Thanks for your informations. Just did some tests, and I'm not sure if we should consider this a bug. You loaded an model from your installed MH (=old v1) before trying to save an expression, right? In this case MH seems to set a new default folder for saving. This behaviour could also be desired, but there is the problem that one cannot change the folder from which the expressions are loaded. So there is a slight inconsistency in the behaviour.

Was going to respond that under WinXP with no makehuman folder in My documents. MakeHumanPortable (official) on an external USB drive.
Use expression-mixer and save. Nothing created in My Documents. Expression file goes in the proper folder under the MakeHumanPortable/Data folder.

It drives me crazy!
Okay, renamed my installed Makeuman folder and next copied the PA-folder to an USB-stick. Ignored the warning. Renamed the 'old' PA-folder, but this wasn't enough. My saved model found its way back into a new v1-folder in the harddrive-directory... To cut it short: You have to make new and clean installs (yes this is what the warning meant) and pay attention that you have different names. Best: when you want to use different versions like me, buy 10 USB-sticks :P

It's a secrete, but I must admit, that I'm sponsored by the USB-device industries  ...

Just kidding...

Why not just installing the portable apps to a local folder, clone the MakeHumanPortable folder and give it a new name. Then in appinfo.ini edit [Details] Name= XXX to distinguish the different instances of MH. In this way you can get multiple instances of MHP, if this makes sense...

There's a new build up in the nightly dir at http://download.tuxfamily.org/makehuman/nightly/

It now includes mhx2 and the asset downloader plugin, as well as updated help etc from Aranuvir.

Next step is to post this in the beta/test forum at portableapps and see what they say. I'll do this sometime the next few days.

Thought about this for awhile and put together a Quick Start guide to setting up the portable versions of MakeHuman and Blender.

It can be viewed at: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/sh/smna78ia281drae/AADH5XHEZr_Meb_Km_BoCPTXa/Portable3D.html

Let me know if I made any major gaffs. Dropbox is going to stop letting pages like this display but you should still be able to download it by doing right-click and Save Link As.

It is kind of large since the picture files are included. Hope to add some more information later.

Put this here in case someone finds this MH Portable thread.

I can't remenber if editing a post will make it show up as new, so I'll add a new post.

I've added more information on where things are located in the folder structure of portable MakeHuman and Blender. Such as manually adding assets or where plugins would go. Also installing multiple copies of the programs.

It can be viewed or downloaded at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/sh/smna78ia281drae/AADH5XHEZr_Meb_Km_BoCPTXa/Portable3D.html. With the embedded illustrations it has gotten pretty big, so if I do anything else it will probably be in a separate TiddlyWiki.

If you spot in errors let me know. Enjoy!

Made some updates to my Quick Start for new users wiki and add a couple more items about questions that new users might ask.

can view online at http://portable3d.tiddlyspot.com , or

downloaded from, https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/sh/smna78ia281drae/AADH5XHEZr_Meb_Km_BoCPTXa/Portable3D.html

Badwolf had asked me about how I made the plugins, hope you got my reply badwolf, and I've been thinking about it. Put together an overview with my thoughts on the process and some examples. It is focused at someone who would want to make their own plugins for the PortableApps versions of MakeHuman and Blender.

Examples include MHX2 exporter for MakeHuman, MHX2 importer for Blender, Blender Tools, and a clothing asset.

If you notice any problems let me know.

UPDATED 5 Oct 2016: Added new links to view online. You can still use the Dropbox links to download them to your PC and view in your browser locally. They are completely self-contained.
