Can't Find/Open Project Files

Postby Appleman » Sun Feb 21, 2016 12:50 am

Hello world! I'm pretty new to Makehuman but so far it's been a great program, especially considering that it's free. My problem is that I saved a file and it's gone. I didn't delete it, move it, and it's nowhere on disk, so I brought up a list of all .mhm files on disk and found one with the same name as the one I saved. However, it's apparently an Internet Shortcut but it doesn't cut me to anywhere on the Internet. Opened in Notepad, all it contains is a URL address, which also doesn't lead anywhere. The weird part is that it still has the .mhm extension.
I have saved other Makehuman files and they opened back up just fine and I'm sure that I did this one the exact same way, so I'm wondering if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone has suggestions. I'd really appreciate any ideas because I put a lot of work into that file and don't have enough time to recreate it properly. Thank you for taking the time to read about my problems.

Since you mention Notepad I assume your running Windows then the files should be @ Documents\makehuman\v1\models have a look there hopefully still intact 8-) BTW actually editing it with notepad may bork it  google Notepad++ for a real text editor ;)

Enjoy the Choice :)

Yeah, I should have specified that; I'm using 64-bit Windows 8, and I looked in that folder in case it ended up there somehow, but I specified that it would be saved to C\windows\users\documents and no further. Is Makehuman known to have a problem with saving outside of the default destination? I didn't change the file in Notepad (I really want it back just as it was); I just wanted to see what was in there (just the URL to nowhere).
And about Notepad++, I haven't gotten around to it yet. All of MY programs come with THEIR OWN beautiful editors ;). And Notepad is where I wrote my first virus (a harmless one, I promise! :), and only used on my own computer), so I'm kind of attached to it.

MH reads MHM files from "MY DOCUMENTS"\makehuman\v1\models. If the MHM file isn't there, MH won't find it.

So quick fix is to move the file there.

But it is possible to navigate to any location by clicking on the little button to the left of the text input space the one with [...] as always there are more ways to skin the proverbial cat.

And ...
After saving to somewhere other than default, the load button should default that location for the remainder of the MH session or until you hit reset or save somewhere else.

Notepad should not be destructive to .mhm files, but they will be difficult to read with Notepad because MH uses 0x0A line endings on .mhm files (like Linux) rather than 0x0A0D line endings for windows which Notepad is expecting.

Notepad++ can indeed do many nice things, but a built in tool you can use on Windows is Wordpad which handles Linux/Mac line endings just fine.

I thought it even remembered it after restarting now.
