Nightly Build Linux Problem

Postby the3dguy » Mon Jan 04, 2016 9:37 pm

Hi there.
I've been using MakeHuman with blender to visualize some storyboard designs I use for my short movies . I recently wanted to use the latest nightly build (MH 1.1.0 for Linux / I use Mint) because I really liked the expression system and better hair styles for different characters I have. The only problem is there is no .mhx export option for Blender in that version for some reason and I couldn't manage to work out the bone system when I use other export methods such as Collada or FBX. Will you add mhx export option soon ? I really want to be able to use it with the new features you added to MakeHuman. Keep the great work up.

Have a good day.

P.S: If you could help me with how to properly use a rig exported from MK to blender that would help too because with .dae files I can use the UV maps with no problem .It's just that the rig n bones are looking all corrupted. Thx

Thanks for the quick reply.

Will try to to get mhx2 working. I'm just curious and wanted to ask which workflow would you suggest me to use officially for blender? (apart from mhx and mhx2 options).

Thanks.

"Officially", I think some people would still insist that DAE and FBX are superior formats since they are, in some sense, formal standards. However, my educated guess is that most people who frequently need to import MH assets into blender will end up using MHX2, since DAE and FBX requires multiple manual steps post import (fixing missing/wrong texture assignments etc) and lack some crucial features (mainy IK). These things that are automated in MHX2.

This is only relevant for blender though. With MH vs any other workflow that does not include blender, you're probably best off using FBX.

Thanks for the info. I figured out the makehuman folder is under usr/share in linux, so I accessed the folder as Root but after I copied the 9_export_mhx2 file into the plugins folder , MakeHuman v 1.1.0 wont open. The splash screens get stuck saying "loading plugins". Will also copy this to bug report if I can't get it to work.

This is most likely a permission problem. Do

chmod -R 755 /usr/share/makehuman

If it still doesn't work, please paste/attach log files from the makehuman folder in your home.

Thank a lot :)

Yep it was a permission problem. Always forget about permission status in Linux.

Working smoothly now . :)

And why viruses just bounce on Linux systems :geek: and the fact that there are just so few of us running it to be profitable targets

Enjoy the Choice :)
