Curious as to why you don't release 1.1 early?

Postby tumaru » Thu Dec 24, 2015 9:14 am

I have been thinking of this for a long time and I'm sorry if its already been asked but I didn't find it in my search.

Why not tidy up version 1.1 and move all remaining work to version 1.1.1?

Sorry if this is a silly question but this seems like that logic puzzle where the arrow travels half the remaining distance each time and never hits the target.

There still a few bugs that are open that just preclude a release that and real life colliding with work on the project which is an issue with all FOSS projects and the guys do have some pride about releasing buggy software. But that is no reason why you can't run the unstable branch yourself the source version or the nightly build so you can stay on the bleeding edge(keep some tissue handy for bloody noses) and do report back so we have data to work with as it's that keeps things moving as Open Source is really about the user being a part of the development cycle.

Enjoy the Choice :)

This has indeed been discussed, and the general agreement in the dev group is that this is how it should be. Most remaining issues should be pushed to 1.1.1.

Moving from there to actually doing the release seems to be a long way coming though.

I've been thinking about simply renaming one of the nightlies and calling it release candidate or interim or something. There are still a lot of people running 1.0.2 because they think a nightly build will somehow eat their cat with ketchup and then run away with their wife.
