Guide needed on how to import facegen model into MakeHuman

Postby Wiccy » Sun Sep 13, 2015 12:52 pm

Hi all, ive used Makehuman for a while now, but i recently have been using FaceGen to create the head from photos. I have the MakeHuman addon installed for it and have exported as per instructions, and ended up with a full human mesh to use with blender's maketarget tools. However i am totally stumped on how to use them to import the mesh and its textures/materials into MH. i have looked at few MakeTarget tutorials but all are based on using the mesh supplied by the maketarget plugin.

The exported mesh from FaceGen includes clothing an hair helper geometries but i dont need these, just the body. can anyone help?

Are you sure that what you want is a target? Sounds to me it'd be easier to create a proxy if you have a complete mesh already.

In that case you'd use makeclothes rather than maketarget.

I have absolutely no clue about facegen, outside what i've googled just now. What I've found is this (search for "makehuman" inside page) :

http://facegen.com/aoSnIa2hOaPrl2c.htm

I wonder how up to date that one is though. If it's for the previous version (or even current stable), you might have trouble making targets from it for the current nightly. However, going the proxy way should be no problem.

Do you have links to any more detailed info?

If the "Makehuman plugin for FaceGen" you're talking about is the model that Joel linked, then your best try would be to create a target.
But to be able to do that, you will have to restore the correct vertex order of the head model, so it matches the MakeHuman basemesh. Some blender scripting will be required for that, as you will need to recreate the entire body around your face and fix the ordering of vertices. If FaceGen kept the right UV map for the face, the UV's could be used to puzzle the vertex order back together.
It's not that easy, but it could work.
