Proxy to output the A7 mesh??

Postby badwolf » Wed Mar 11, 2015 9:12 pm

In working with Project Valentina we have run into an issue that the current mesh is a bit "heavy" for our use is there a proxy that can be used to sub the A7 mesh in??

Im liking the current mesh on tech grounds but our artist prefers the A7 mesh so im trying to get him to "upgrade".

I'd love to see the A7 mesh available as a proxy mesh. There were a lot of really great things about that mesh and it would mean I no longer have to run two different versions of MakeHuman on my machine.

Agreed. I find that the A7 mesh created an East Indian character perfectly; even more, the Alpha 5.1 mesh creates a classic Nordic perfectly.

It would be nice to have them back (with a few fixes, for example the eye sockets in Alpha 5.1) in a future version of MH. :)

Since v1 releases of mh already come with a file data/3dobjs/a7_converter.proxy -- which is essentially the a7 basemesh fit onto the new one, used to transfer old proxies to the new mesh -- it should not be too hard to create one yourself.

Because of the difference in rest pose, the arms have some problems. To do this well, one would have to remodel the a7 mesh in the new pose, then fit it to the basemesh. Using the T pose in mh you can always export a T-posed mesh.

I have attached a simple proxy created out of the aforementioned file.
It's not perfect, and certainly not worth any official release, but if you can do something with it, be my guest.
UV map is that of A7, so it's incompatible with new textures.
If you feel up to it, versions with Improved fitting are always welcome.

Since we have moved on to a better basemesh, and still have enough work in other areas, don't expect too much else in terms of backward porting such as this from us. Community efforts are always welcome of course.

You actually need a whole new mesh for Valentina. Your mesh loop lines need to sit exactly on a reduced polygon model manikin only, torso and legs. It should have all the dimensions (loopline vertexes) sit exactly on the fashion block measurement points.

You should not be using the MH base mesh. You should be using a fashion manikin proxy that is based on the limited number of clothing blocks the fashion industry uses. Don;t over complicate the issue it's far simpler than what you are doing. Once you have a basic manikin with loop lines in the basic tailor measurement positions apply the MH basic mesh to fit that mesh position. That becomes simpler as you can run a secondary fit using few measurement positions as you have the correct surface volume to collide with.

When we built our fit tool we did it by making a tailored manikin with looplines in the measurement position on clothing blocks, you can then use mesh projection to transfer those looplines and vertex positions to one standard male mesh, female, teen, child proxy.

You do not want the 'T' position also, fashion dimensions off that pose position are useless for fashion use. Use a pose that is suitable for fashion for example 'A' pose followed by arm bent etc. Arm length, leg length cannot be determined by one pose alone. Utter nonsense- if you are going to build a tool get it right please.
