Male Rig? -- I gotta ask this...

I was wondering about the "male rig" setting for the mhx export feature. So I did a google on it and discovered there were a few posts about this in the past but I did not get the sense that the "last word" had been spoken about it.

What I'm wondering about is the "penis" and "scrotum" bones. Do they do anything? One post I read seemed to indicate they did but were hidden. If that's the case how do I "unhide" them? :?

I'm asking because I'm curious more than anything and I have a habit of finding and pushing limits. I'm strictly a neophyte at blender at the moment and having one hell of a time with the learning curve so it could be the answer is right in front of my eyes and I just haven't seen it...

If they are hidden, they are probably on a bone layer that is not set to visible. Try unhiding all bone layers.

As for what the purpose of the male rig is, I believe only Thomas knows. It was an experiment that I believe he abandoned for the upcoming A8 version.

Also been wondering about this for a while now.

So these bones have been totally removed? Can't find any hidden layers in blender. Working on a biology presentation and it would be useful to be able to adjust the penis bones...

You can tell the mhx2 importer to add a male rig, but this option is only visible if it makes sense.

Override Exported Data
Add Genitalia: Male
Add Rig
Rig Type: anything but Exported, I think

Then the option should appear at the bottom. Optionally, you may choose to Merge Body Parts for a seamless integration with the body. However, this does not work for proxy meshes.

The male bones appear on the Tweak layer for the Mhx rig, don't remember for other rigs.

Thank you very much was also wondering if they were planning on making a female genitalia rig. I put in the request but I am hoping that they will put it in there, as of right now I will be making my own rig for that

woww soo.... it not only me!!!
I dont goint to lie and I know that this may get some troubles or bad ideas to some,but I been try to give my males characters an erect penis,just for some battle, or slave confrontations scenes that i have in mind, with some partial success,when I pose them the penis get apart from them.i have not used the hidden bones not idea that they exist,what i have done its to separate the penis and testicles from the character and put them in upright position. not bad but also not perfect yet

You can't just make the penis point upwards for a realistic erection. You also need to increase the size, and that's just the easiest part.

The standard penis mesh that comes with MH comes with a foreskin that can't be moved or retracted (in real human males, that is called phimosis, LOL), and there is no glans underneath said foreskin. We would need several penile morph targets like foreskin partially retracted, foreskin fully retracted, no foreskin (circumcised), penis erect, etc.

As said in another post, for a while there was a discussion about whether it wouldn't be a better idea to have the genitalia as a separate mesh, i.e neither base mesh nor proxy, instead in practice clothes. To represent the level of detail needed, quite a high mesh density would be needed. In this case it would also be possible to have different models for erect and non-erect penises, and they wouldn't need to share textures nor even the number of vertices.

Downside is that there would be intersection areas between the main body and the genitalia, and that these might be tricky to hide.
