Re Bump Mapping etc.
This is off the top of my head as I can't access the original files from here to check:
The clothing has only bump mapping. I used the Best Quality setting and Feline Filter, Probes 8 Fsize .25. For the cloth and the mesh on the boots etc. I think the illusion is good but the ribbing on the Basc definitely needs some proper displacement and or Sculpting. The bump and tex maps are both very high res. (which seems to be main thing) no fancy camera just a Fuji Finepix for the originals but the finished was 3000x3000 anything less and you really see the pixelation on the detail so be warned if you use GPU rendering I can see a memory issue on a complex scene. Shades of the old 2-3Gig clip on 32bit systems.

I'm getting a bit concerned that I may be telling experts how do the obvious here I'm actually quite new to this, again my DA site will give you the background. Indulge me a little as I'm very encouraged by your interest I just hope I can live up to it.

By the way is this now getting off topic for Gallery should we be discussing this somewhere else?

Since you are talking of technical details of your work (and perhaps you will post more related images about it) the discussion can stay here.
But if you prefer a separate thread, you can start it in "general" section.
