export all expressions as batch process?

Postby rampa » Sat Nov 30, 2013 8:06 pm

Is there a way to export all the expressions as OBJ files in one step? Without going into Blender?

I was hoping to use them as morph targets in another piece of software.

Your best shot would be to take a look at the scripting feature:

It's available under the utilities tab these days, so the screenshot is somewhat wrong.

The tricky part here is that an expression is not a target as such, it's a combination of targets. And there is (so far) no simple API call for setting an expression via the scripting API, although I have it planned.

To see what actual target settings are required for a particular expression, open the corresponding MHM file (for example ./data/expressions/smile.mhm) in a text editor.

It's not for the faint of heart.
I think you'd have an easier time figuring out a blender script (already existing or custom), or a workflow to automatically batch export all shapekeys from blender.
If you manage to create seperate models with each shapekey applied in blender automatically (good chance you find some way using google), there are OBJ exporters that allow you to export all selected meshes, or all meshes in the scene at once.

If you can use collada or fbx, enable the Expressions checkbox on export.
