MakeSalon: Your Inner Hairdresser

Postby brkurt » Sat Oct 19, 2013 3:43 am

Since the inclusion of the great new hair into Alpha 8, I believe that the time has come for we Makehuman programmers and artists to get in touch with our inner hairdresser(s). ;)

For the next library, what 12 basic hairstyles for women do you think should be included?
Here are my suggestions:

(1) Pixie Bob or 1920's Flapper;
(2) Punk Shaved around Ears with Medium-Length Bob (check out Comic Book Girl 19 on YouTube);
(3) 1930's Jean Harlow (aka 1950's Marilyn Monroe);
(4) Long Hair Piled High in a Tight Bun (1950's Audrey Hepburn);
(5) Gidget (or my favourite Weena from the Time Machine 1960) --> this one is already done by Manuel;
(6) Anne of Green Gables pigtails;
(7) Betty from Archie ponytail (with a bounce to it, not just gravity);
(8) 1970's Cher (already done);
(9) 1970's Farrah Fawcett (this one would be very popular);
(10) 1970's Bo Derek corn rows;
(11) Princess Leia Hair Buns (I just had to include that);
(12) Elvira Mistress of the Dark Obvious Wig.

Feel free to chime in with your own suggestions.

I'll be selfish for just a second:

Marine Corps hairtstyles for men and women. Most of my SF characters if they make their living in space are going to wear that style. I've been using the particle system to accomplish this so far but that is not without problems...

Here are some examples for women

with male haircuts "high and tight" is the rule and there isn't much variety. Short flat-top and stubble on the sides.

Thanks for joining the conversation, Salty. I got my ideas while watching upteen fashion videos, working on a walk cycle. I was struck by how few new hairstyles there are for women; this includes the Parisian Haute Couture types.

Makehuman is on its way to making a big impression in the 3d world; its time we contributing artists begin to formulate a plan to support it with hair, makeup and clothing libraries.

That's why I purchased Marvelous Designer, for all its problems.

Ok, if you want an hairstyle, please provide h-res pictures from the front-side-back-top.
I'll try to make them. Right now I'm working on afro style. Also I like vintage hair, but I think most users want modern hairstyle.

I definitely don't want to give you more work, especially at such an important turning point with Makehuman. :o

What I really want is a set of guidelines so that I can create exotic, vintage, and wild hairdo, and then submit them to the Makehuman library. ;)

Anyway good hair reference can help.
We have 3d.sk access but all the hairstyle are very casual.

I understand that for maximum market penetration, Makehuman needs hairstyles that are modern and conventional.

DAZ is big on exotic hairstyles. If for example I recreated the hairstyle of a Minoan High Priestess, how could I then submit it to the Makehuman library?
