MakeNeanderthal?

Postby brkurt » Sun Mar 17, 2013 10:26 pm

I have doing a lot a research in order to create a free, fully-muscled skull, and in the process stumbled upon this website:

http://www.themandus.org :o

where the author Danny Vendramini states a very strong case that Neanderthals were not the easy-going cavemen we see in the science documentaries, but the monsters of our darkest nightmares: cannibals and rapists.

The resemblance to H.G. Wells' Morlocks was particularly striking.

Then I stumbled upon this website:

http://arc-team-open-research.blogspot.com.br/2013/03/the-faces-of-evolution-exhibition-of.html

to find a major paleoanthropological exhibit of hominids, with the heads sculpted with Blender. :)

Is anyone interested in a MakeNeanderthal target? I have my skull work to finish, but I would be interested to know if the standard MakeHuman mesh can be tweaked for early hominids. :geek:

Hi, I'm interested in this, since years. The problem is the time. But if you provide me good references, I can try to make some targets.

What would you need? There are plenty of sites dealing with the subject; I'm thinking a fully laid-out skeleton and several skulls are the minimum. Danny Vendramini's take on what the Neanderthals looked like is so radical that a separate target would be needed.

I've been trying to contract him, to get his blessing on such a project, but he's hard to find.

Good references = front and side blueprints.

The biggest difference is the shape of the head.

Personally, I agree with DT one this one: Neanderthal eyes were significantly larger than human ones, and likely reflective.
Larger eyes would place the brow ridge and eye sockets higher on the skull.

As for the torso, that's fairly easy. Neanderthals had a larger rib cage, and basically no waist at all.
They had wider hips and bow legs, which maximum musculature.

They had 'Popeye' forearms (at least the males did) , with enlarged radius/ulna bones on the right side, from thrusting with a spear.

That's a compendium of dozens of BBC videos; I'd have to track them all down for accurate referencing.
