I Want to make skin textures for MakeHuman

Postby Brandy Farfan » Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:38 pm

Hi guys. It's me again. I wanna make some skin texture thingys for Makehuman. For both Male and Female models in Makehuman. I have alot of Male and female Photo references from 3D.Sk and other sites etc. And eye lenses colour textures as well. eg. Blue eyes, green eyes etc. And I use Photobean, sorry, my mistake.....Photoshop and Gimp. :D

But I think I need skin templates, or examples, for both male and female versions.
I am currently using the Make Human nightly that I downloaded on the 6/22/2012.
Can anyone help me?
I'm really interested in doing this skin textures thing, since I'll have alot of free time on my hands, after I finish my cartoon for Animae Caribe 2012.
I'm using Windows 7 64 Bit. Bye.

Well, default skin you can find in folder installation of Makehuman.
If you got a hires pic it is good idea to rise dimensions twice (default is 2048x2048px).. Anyway, wish you luck at this project :)

Thanks for the info tjindy. :D
Would the default skin be in the folder named textures? There are so many folders, but none named Skin textures. I think I'll have to open them one by one to find it.

When you said,........"rise dimensions twice (default is 2048x2048px)" ............. do you mean, to resize the makehuman skin texture etc. to twice the size in Photoshop? And if so why? :?:

You can also find the default skin on the contributed skins page: http://www.makehuman.org/skins

Welcome,

path to default textures you`ve got in installation folder, for examle: C:\Program Files (x86)\Makehuman\data\textures (if you installed MH in MSWindows ) or as joepal wrote - download from internet :)
Pay attention that you should export UV grid/mesh form blender for better fit details on model. I work with three layers: default skin, UV and one for new skin.
I rised dimensions for details to 4096x4069 px. For example - i work as web developer - sometimes is needed to put on screen some nice closeup body details, so it would be better to get pic with nice textures ;)
Of coz, it is only my idea for details and if you don`t want to do this - don`t do :)

Thanks for the info again tjindy. :)
But two questions.
1) How do you raise dimensions, especially in photoshop?
2) Wouldn't that cause de pixelization or make the image look, fuzzy etc. eg. When you resize a small image to twice or three times it size, it looks obscure and ugly.

Well, i work on GIMP so.. Gnerally - you should have high resolution pictures. It is better scaling down photo than scaling up ;)
For the beginning - try to do some textures with small res - for practice. Import to MH, check correct UV, errors etc. Then try to do hi res texture.
You have to achieve own way to do textures. Open project with default 2048px x 2048px, load default skin texture, load uvmap, and on third layer (or more) load reference photos of body skin. Then compare dimensions of photo and texture, scale down if it is needed (it should be).
