Character Texture/CC0 License

Postby Sksharks » Wed Sep 18, 2013 3:28 pm

Hi im new on this forum :) i started using makehuman fairly recently i would like someone to answer a few questions i have.

1) If I edit some of the texture that come built in with the MakeHuman package will i still be free to use it for a commercial game project for mobile platforms?

2) How can i make the characters more realistic/good looking? I saw the Boxer Project by Gianluc Miragoli and i stand astonished :o thinking how he did that. I want to achieve something like that.

3) Final question how do i make my own textures?

Thank for your help in advanced im new so i really have no clue about licensing etc...

Yes you can use the textures, and modifiy them however you like.

The kind of detail you see on the boxer model is by sculpting extra detail on the mesh using a tool like blender sculpting, mudbox, zbrush or sculptris.
In the future we will provide extra detail in the form of normal maps, but this is not done yet.

You can create textures using projection/stencil painting in a tool like blender, mudbox, ... and paint from reference photos on your model.
Or you could use a 2D painting tool like gimp, photoshop, mypaint, ..., or use a combination of the two.
Check general tutorials about texture creation for inspiration.

I've been experimenting with scanning watercolor washess, and then I discovered something even more interesting.
The next time you get a fresh (preferably bloody) cut of meat from the butcher, scan the wrapping paper, folds, blood and all.
The translucent nature of butcher's paper creates an interesting effect, because the scanning light comes through unevenly. :o

Great for zombies and monsters in general. :)
