In developement is what can be roughly referred to, at this point, as version 2.0, which is in a pre alpha state as I write this.
In MakeHuman versions 1.x.x, a code base was used which differs from the current, more up to date and far more functional, code version. In other words, the program is being re written to update the code set making up the very core of the software. This will have many benefits including new features folks have been asking for and others they did not know were possible. I will not elaborate further other than to say that this new version will be worth the wait and although the interface will see a major revision, the underlying functions we now use will still be there, along with a bunch of new stuff.
For those who wish to know more, search on Pyside6. This name refers to the new code set making up this new version of MakeHuman. The program is unfinished ATM and the recommended way to run it is from source inside a virtual machine. This is due to possible conflicts with system level versions of common libraries shared between the OS and MakeHuman, mostly python stuff. The code has come a long way since version 1 of MakeHuman. Version 2 promises to take advantage of the power available in the more recent code set. If you are brave and curious to see the evolution take place, Pyside6 in a VM will take you there.
Run it on a good workstation.
Happy testing...
