Are Voxel Characters Possible?

Postby jippolatta » Fri Feb 24, 2017 1:03 am

Sorry for the very basic question, I am still very new to all this. Essentially I am looking to create a character that has the same box like shape as Minecraft as it has a vaguely similar art style as my project.

Thanks in advance.

Stupid question. Is Voxel the name of a game character?

From the title I thought this might be about characters created as point clouds rather than meshes, but the question seems more about artistic style. What is a "Voxel Character"?

Voxel is like 3d pixel art it's not a name of a character and this isn't a stupid question I've seen what people can do with makehuman and maybe it is possible if you morph the character enough in blender.

Interesting. I just went through this with my psychology students. Voxel is defined as a volumetric digital element; that is, a screen dot that is a the result of a code function or procedure, and not an absolute picture element (bitmap) or a dynamic picture element (jpg, png). What is being requested here is a interactive 3d model that can be used in gaming, or in a 3d-enabled browser, where the MH character changes with code changes in something like a GUI interface.

It's a very pertinent question. I believe this was one of the goals of the NeuroVR project. http://www.neurovr2.org

I've never played MineCraft but from images I've seen the entire world, including characters, is built from cubes. So the OP is looking for characters to look something like this:

I'm guessing that the cubes are being referred to as voxels.
