Creating New Eyebrows?

Postby Atom » Wed Aug 17, 2016 7:49 pm

Hi All,

I am trying to make a new eyebrow entry that will work inside of Make Human. I realize I can just edit the eyebrows001.png file and just use that for texturing in my 3D app of choice but I was hoping to actually provide this as a user contribution.

Here is my work flow.
I copied the eyebrow001 inside the Program Files\Make Human\data\eyebrows folder to my desktop.
I copied that folder into the My Documents\Make Human\data\eyebrows folder.
At this point I see two eyebrows001 inside of Make Human when I launch.
I edited my eyebrows001.png file and overwrote the orginal .png in my new local eyebrow001 folder.

When I open up Make Human I still see two entries for eyebrows001. However when I click between them my new .png file is not always loaded. If I click away to eyebrow002 then back to eyebrow001 it does work.

At this point I decide to rename my new eyebrow to a unique name. Even though I can edit the .mhmat file in a text editor the other files I can not. This causes broken entry and I see the white non-textured eyebrow mesh.

Does anyone know how to make new eyebrows with a unique name?

I think your problem is probably related to the fact that your new folder does not contain a unique uuid. Line 27 of eyebrow001.mhclo must be unique for every set of eyebrows. Try supplying a unique uuid for your new set of assets. It would be a good idea to have a unique name, but the unique uuid is essential. Line 29 should point at your .mhmat file if you change the name. Make all the filename roots match if you decide on a new name.

To prevent caching issues, I would avoid copying the compiled assets eyebrow001.mhpxy and eyebrow001.npy to your new folder, even though, in theory, they would be overwritten.

Hmm...are you referring to Make Human?

I see no .mhclo file in the eyebrow001 folder.

Are there any tools for making eyebrows, how does the Make Human team do it?
Why aren't they just OBJ files so we could open them up and edit them as we see fit?

That's because you're running a build. These have compiled assets.

If you want to see the uncompiled assets you need to run from source.

Clothes (this includes hair and eyebrows etc) are made with MakeClothes. See
