Selling in Second Life

Postby gabbycat » Sat Feb 13, 2016 9:27 pm

Hi - I have read the license and the summary and honestly I'm still confused. Can I use Makehuman to make avatars to sell in Second Life or other virtual worlds?

You can use them for whatever the fuck you want. That's the tl;dr version of MH license.

Did you read the CC0 license? It's here: https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

"You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission."

I don't know how any conceivable formulation can be clearer than this.

I missed that part and obviously wanted to make sure I was complying with their requirements. Thanks for the kind and helpful responses.

just to be somewhat detailed there are actually 2 different licenses in play here

1 The MakeHuman Program (and builtin assets): AGPL short version if you use all or part of the MH code (directly or by linking) your program MUST BE AGPL

2 Non builtin Assets and exported models: CC:0 mostly but check the assets you are using for exceptions (please be aware that the mesh is going to be HEAVY)

Go into Pose/Animate and set the skeleton to Opensim and the pose to t-pose then

Blender has a preset to ensure you export correctly SELECT ALL BEFORE DOING THE EXPORT

Hi gabbycat,

I work for a design software company, and we are looking for someone to develop realistic human figures (using Make Human) for our program. I'd love to see your work. Send me a private message so we can discuss details.

Thanks,

Meshete

You may consider the Second Life TOS 2.3 https://www.lindenlab.com/tos
Except as otherwise described in any Additional Terms (such as a contest’s official rules) which will govern the submission of your User Content, you hereby grant to Linden Lab, and you agree to grant to Linden Lab, the non-exclusive, unrestricted, unconditional, unlimited, worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, and cost-free right and license to use, copy, record, distribute, reproduce, disclose, modify, display, publicly perform, transmit, publish, broadcast, translate, make derivative works of, and sell, re-sell or sublicense (through multiple levels)(with respect to Second Life, Inworld or otherwise on the Service as permitted by you through your interactions with the Service), and otherwise exploit in any manner whatsoever, all or any portion of your User Content (and derivative works thereof), for any purpose whatsoever in all formats, on or through any media, software, formula, or medium now known or hereafter developed, and with any technology or devices now known or hereafter developed, and to advertise, market, and promote the same. You agree that the license includes the right to copy, analyze and use any of your Content as Linden Lab may deem necessary or desirable for purposes of debugging, testing, or providing support or development services in connection with the Service and future improvements to the Service. The license granted in this Section 2.3 is referred to as the "Service Content License."

For example CGtexture no more allows to export free content to SL.
