Suggestions for modeling pants

Postby SaltyCowdawg » Fri Jan 09, 2015 6:12 pm

So, I've been fairly disappointed with my attempts that this before so I'm looking for some guidance from the gurus.

My methodology so far has been to load a average <insert gender here> with helpers, select tights, separate the mesh, delete the human and load in a average <insert gender here> for reference. I then delete everything above an arbitrary line and start modeling.

What I've run into is when I'm trying to create uniform pants with a crease down the middle I've yet to come up with a way of taking the loops along the front of the mesh and straighten them out so I can model that crease. I've run into other issues but I'll start there because if I can crack that nut the others will fall into line... I think.

Anybody got any thoughts on this?

I'm thinking you want a pair of 1940's military style pants with a permanent crease.
In order to do that, I would suggest starting in Blender, and using the mirror modifier.

With respect to anatomy, you want to have diagonal bands across and around the hips, such that the pipe legs of the pants have very little interaction with groin and hips.

and here is the Blender file, with mirror mode still running. I've expanded the thigh area, as this is usually where the large pockets are located.
I hope the crease is sharp enough.
