Joint limit database for different poses

Postby jcapco » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:38 pm

Hi

We are trying to develop our internal pose engine, but we are facing a lot of difficulties right now. My question to the public is if anyone knows of a database with joint limits for every human pose (or at an angular interval where things can be interpolated)? We would need any possible help here.

your mh developer team.

One resource that I used is http://hippydrome.com/. It does not cover twist angles, though.

One problem that I encountered with the mhx rig is with compound rotations around several axes simulataneously, especially for the shoulder. Even if the joint limits are correct for rotation around a single axis, you may run into trouble with further rotations. In Blender (but this is surely not Blender specific) the rotation mode (quaternions vs Euler angles) and rotation order also matters.

The twist problems can be solved by double quaternion skinning and mesh deformation (according to a paper I read). You already suggested Bouza's Blenring which uses double quaternion mesh sknning in one of your tutorials and this is the direction we want to go to.

That is a nice site there. Good luck on the pose engine. I hope it all works out well. I did find this but who knows if it is of any help?

Perhaps a word of advise. I suggest the developers take a look at Daz Studio 4's Pose Editor. Not only are there sliders but you can highlight with the mouse any body part and grab it under the IK. To have both within Make Human would be nice.

I think Poser already worked like that in 1995.

If it did, i would not know. I only had Poser 6 open for a few minutes then got rid of it.

I'm talking about Poser 1, when it was still made by a company that cared about its products.

I know but that was before my time. I only got into CG as of 1998.
