Request for volunteers: Documentation about making skins

Postby joepal » Mon Jul 02, 2012 8:40 am

Me and manuel have had a discussion about enabling uploading of user contributed skins within the nearest future. However, before doing so, we need a better documentation page. What we currently have on making skins is this:

http://www.makehuman.org/node/127

If someone could find it in them to contribute a few lines of text on the topic, this would be very helpful.

A skin is here a texture such as what is included in the MHX exports. For the vanilla skin, see http://www.makehuman.org/node/124

1. Go to Documents > MakeHuman > Data > Skins and open up one of the Tif files of the skin you want to have as your base in an image editor.
2. Edit the skin as you wish and save in the same place with a different file name as a Tif.
3. If you want the skin to have a thumbnail in MakeHuman, create a png file with the dimensions 128 by 128 pixels and save it in the same place with the same name as your skin.
4. Open up MakeHuman, go to Library > Skin and double click the skin you just made.
5. Voila, the skin will appear on your model.

Easy? haha

Taking into consideration the stretching it is still a fairly easy process imo
