Tutorial for Facial Hair

Postby sedfsgdgd » Tue Aug 16, 2016 1:56 am

Hi, I downloaded blender recently and I admit I have no idea of how to use it. I've read some tutorials of makeclothes, but they are more focused on the clothes (duh) making and i haven't seen any of facial hair. Yep, I know, if I read them eventually I'll figure our how to make my character a nice beard. But I wonder is there any tutorial specifically of face hair around the web? I've searched in the tutorials section here and didn't find anything. I'll appreciate your help, would make my modelling far easier. Thx again people :)

Hair is not easy. While the mesh can be reasonably quickly added, you will need an elaborate texture with alpha to make it look good.

I'd recommend that you download Grinsegold's excellent beard and moustache from

http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... tache.html
http://www.makehumancommunity.org/cloth ... beard.html

That way you can get your hand on .obj files which can be imported in blender to see how the mesh looks.

Otherwise, the pipeline is essentially the same as for clothes. Facial hair is (technically) just clothing placed on the face rather than elsewhere on the body.

Thx for answering :D But now I have an other problem xd I downloaded both as said in the tutorials, but they don't seem to work when I try to apply them. The exact message the log gives is:
Problem loading binary proxy: ('compiled proxy file missing: %s', u'data/clothes\\full_beard\\full_beard.mhpxy')
Problem loading binary mesh: ('compiled file missing: %s', u'C:/Users/Sebastian/Downloads/makehuman-1 1 0-win32/data/clothes/full_beard/full_beard.npz')

So i guess I have to manually compile them but i have no idea how. PD: I'm using Windows.

That message always is shown on the first load on new assets the app just compiles them on the fly try again ;) should be ok if not post the log file so we can see what the issue is.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Thanks Loki for the reply but it hasn't worked. I've tried loading makehuman several times (restarting the pc, deleting the shortcut, etc) but it still gives me the same message and the downloaded clothes doesn't show up. The exact log displays the following:

I edited your post to put the log output between code tags makes thins more readable looks like it's not saving the npz files for some reason we may have to wait for someone with knowledge of the code chips in,it should not be a permissions issue as this is windows ;)

Code: Select all
Not writing compiled meshes to system paths (C:/Users/Sebastian/Downloads/makehuman-1 1 0-win32/data/clothes/full_beard/full_beard.npz).

On further though this may be the issue why are you running it in your Download folder try moving it to Program Files and the first time you run it will create a new folder in your My Documents folder which is where all the downloaded assets should go not within the .exe a it is trying at the monent so the resulting path should be (C:/Users/Sebastian/My Documents/makehuman/v1/data/clothes/full_beard/full_beard

Downloaded assets should go into your Documents\makehuman\v1\data folder, see

http://www.makehumancommunity.org/wiki/ ... _directory)%3F (for the location)
http://www.makehumancommunity.org/wiki/ ... ll_them%3F (for more detailed info on downloading and installing clothes, beards count as clothing)

However, I guess it's also theoretically possible there might be a bug with spaces in the path name, although I doubt it. You could try renaming "makehuman-1 1 0-win32" to "makehuman-1.1.0-win32" (how did it end up with spaces in the first place?). This shouldn't be the problem, but if nothing else works you can at least test it.

Thanks Loki and Joepal :) The problem was having the makehuman folder in the downloads instead of program files. I moved it and the error message doesn't display anymore. Unfortunately, neither the clothes xD. Apparently as i am running the software with no-shaders, the beard dont show up (although it doesnt display the missing file message anymore). So I'll guess I'll have to try it in some other pc. Thanks anyway guys :)

FLAG ON PLAY one thing that i have found on windows is it does not like long path names so what you might want to try is grab a spare flash drive and spin up a copy of the Portable Aps suite then install MakeHuman Portable (do a search in the forum for details.

if you don't have a flashdrive to spare you can do a harddrive install but put it directly into a clean and short subfolder on your c drive (ie C:\PAS\ )
