Exporting into 3ds Max

Postby DisneyRob123 » Sat Mar 12, 2016 10:53 pm

I made a character in MH, and dressed him in a nice suit of clothes. Then I exported him into 3ds max. His head, and hands show up great, but the rest of him
is transparent, and does not show up in rendering. Can you not import clothing into 3ds max from MH, or am I doing something wrong.

You used .dae for the export I assume could be a issue with the collada importer in 3ds Max or the options for the export in MH I don't use 3ds so not sure, there have been some reports of materials not transferring from MH to blender as well with .dae which is probably why most of us blenderheads use the mhx2 export. MHX2 could be used with 3ds if someone familiar with it coded an importer for 3ds.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I'd say you run into one or possibly two things here:

1. The importer in 3ds wasn't able to properly assign textures. All textures are exported, and the image files are there, but in 3ds they have been assigned in the wrong way. In most cases this is a checkbox or something equally trivial that needs to be switched on the texture (in 3ds), usually to tell the material to take into account that the texture file is RGBA, ie has an alpha channel. I don't know 3ds so can't tell you what this is called specifically.

2. You probably have "hide faces under clothes" enabled (this is default, you find the checkbox on the clothing tab). This means that geometry which is calculated as being underneath the clothes are deleted in the export. So when the clothes are invisble you see the big hole in the toon where the geometry has been removed. You could try unticking this checkbox before doing an export.
