Absolute beginner tutorials?

Postby learning » Thu Mar 06, 2014 8:45 pm

Hi,
I'm just starting to learn to render things in Blender and use Makehuman. Many of the most basic things are still trouble for me, and as far as Makehuman is concerned I obly learned the basics. Makehuman itself is rather intuitive, but the Blender plugins are weird and difficult to use. There are some basic Blender tutorials around, from which I learned some basics about posing and mesh editing, but there is still a gap between this and using Makehuman plugins compenently, and tutorials on this site assume some knowledge I don't have. Can anyone experienced make a tutorial on Makehuman Blender addons aimed at absolute beginners, explaining every step in detail (i.e. where to click, which buttons to press etc.)? This would certainly make MakeHuman more accessible for newbies like myself.

In particular I'm interested in MakeClothes, as default clothing library in MakeHuman is very rudimentary (though skin, hair and other geometries could also use more diversity). I would like to learn to make new clothing items (and submit them for everyone to use, if I get competent at this). Or at least import some renders freely available in the Internet for everyone to use (e.g. http://archive3d.net/ has some public domain renders that I would be glad to use with Makehuman if I knew how).

Blendertools are aimed to developers and expert contributors so they are not so intuitive as MakeHuman.
The built-in library of clothes and hair will grow in next months, so the end users will not need to use the Blender scripts.
Anyway, the first thing to do is model a cloth that fit the character.
There are many tutorials about this, generic tutorials I mean, not about makehuman.
When you will have the human and the cloth in the same Blender scene, post in this thread for further help.

Have you seen this?

Blendertools also contains the MHX importer, which *should* be for general (Blender) consumption.

Well, I can wait for the big guys to make something I will be able to use, but that does not seem very productive. Now that 1.0 is out and still no new textures or geometries have appeared, there's no telling as to how long it is going to take. In my experience, accomplished 3D artists are usually not very keen to share their stuff, so instead of waiting for them, why not grow your own? Detailed newbie tutorials can help with that. I'm feeling quite a bit more confident with Blender since I last posted here, for an instance, but trying to follow the diaper tutorial I still got lost half-way through.

Also, this may be a long shot, but when (and if) I finally manage to create something worthwhile for MH, is there any section on the site where I could upload it for everyone to use? Some kind of a database of clothing/skin/rigs/topologies/everything else?

All of those are being worked on.

For now you can share your work on the forum.
