rigged default that matches maketarget model

Postby CallHarvey3d » Tue Feb 07, 2017 3:26 pm

im trying to create targets that fix pinching and distortion in extreme poses. the easy way to do that would be to actually pose the maketarget obj, adjust the vert positions, unpose the model and export the target. now im having trouble finding a way to do this accurately as the maketarget obj and the base mh model dont match. im guessing jujube's base test.target could help me create a MH base character that i could export an fbx to work with.. but i dont understand how that target is actually supposed to function it gets all crazy. thoughts?

I'm not so familiar with MakeTarget, too. But "Set as base" option, lets you use another MakeHuman mesh for modeling. If you want to work on the (very) base mesh without any modifier on it you could load any MakeHuman rig with these tools: https://bitbucket.org/MakeHuman/makehum ... /downloads on the MakeTarget's base mesh. I'm curious about your results.

Thanks! my biggest problem is i dont know blender but im pretty good with max. i found a way to do this that is really overcomplicated. 1. exported base human on default rig as fbx and an obj with jujubes target at 100%. 2. merged that fbx, obj and the maketarget base obj into max scene at same scale. 3. applied the jujubes obj as morphtarget (shape key) to my base fbx and adjusted it until the geometry exactly matched the maketarget .obj. (exactly 50% strength) 4. skinwrapped the maketarget obj to the rigged mesh. 5. hid the rigged mesh. 6. posed skeleton edited maketarget obj. 7. unposed skeleton 8. exported maketarget obj. it worked! but damn.. now that i know the strength of jujubes target should be 50% if i could set exactly that in MH i could just export an fbx skinwrap and edit. would be a little easier. is there a way to set exact target strength in MH?

well i edited the model .mhm in notepad and woohoo i can set exact value there! that is good enough for me. still curious if there is easier ways that exist to do any of this

Perhaps you want try this: export any MakeHuman model to max. Pose and edit the mesh. Unpose. Export to Blender. Import your mesh, load the MakeTarget base mesh, load jujubes target on base mesh. Select imported mesh, select base mesh, hit 'Load Target From Mesh'. Have fun ... (though I'm not absolutely sure if this will create a modifier, suitable for posed models ...)

thanks! that seems like a great solution as well. as for now i have this working all in max so its saveing me a step. i'm going to add the model to the assets so that its available if it's useful to anyone else. as for the targets it will take a while to see what works and what doesnt. i also need to find a way to automate the mirroring of the targets so they can be identical and cut the effort in half.

Hmm... I tested 1)applying base test.target + anti base.target at 100% in maketarget 2)applying anti base.target at 100% in makehuman, then exporting that. Both give me a result identical to the original maketarget mesh. So just 2), exported with rig, should work. No need for lots of steps or setting things to 50%... maybe it works differently in max?

It works the other way around, too: when I apply base test.target at 100% in maketarget, it's identical to the startup makehuman mesh.

(edit: I see that you're using the default/startup MH morph)

i hadnt even discovered the anti target  glad i didnt spend much time on that since the .mhm doesnt seem to be working anyway. for some reason the custom targets aren't loading with the file. either way i now have a working .max file from which i can create corrective targets which was my goal. got there in a roundabout way.

if anyone is curious i uploaded a lotus pose and corrective target. its not a perfect fix it was more for testing than anything. i will probably do this as part of mypose creation pipeline from now on. It will help me personally quite a bit. in testing it seems this is going to be more helpful to me to have a per pose corrective target as opposed to combinations of joint specific corrective targets as i originally planned to do. not sure if these will be useful to you guys if so let me know and ill add them with poses that need them

I should probably change the name to something more descriptive (if you even can change names).

There should also be a way to filter the asset repo by author, especially with all the people contributing clothes lately. But then again there's also the tagging function in the MH asset downloader addon, maybe people are getting tagged in that.. hmm.
