How to import a rigged MHX?

Postby marioschluse » Sat Feb 05, 2011 4:25 pm

Yo, here is my second questions:
Can somebody give me a short tutorial on how to import full rigged MHX files into blender?

i found i video on youtube, i did everything what he said, but it didn't work.

1. download latest MH nightly built
2. update
3. create a human and export it in mhx file
4. start blender, activate mhx import.
5. import
6. start posing...

Maybe I'm missing a step? Please help...

How did it not work?
1. Is the exported mhx file there? On windows, in My Documents\makehuman\exports.
2. What Blender version are you running?
3. What is the version of the mhx importer?
4. Are there any error messages in the console?

When you say "it didn't work" do you mean the model didn't import at all?
Can you please tell us a bit more about your problem.

I'm not mario but I have the same problem. I believe what he means is that when you try to pose or animate your character, mine's named Gavin, the bones don't transform the mesh except for a few bones.

The spine, jaw, tongue (essential) and the breasts, penis and scrotum (nonessential) are the only bones that seem to deform the mesh.

The Master bones located to the right of the character do not seem to connect to anything.

The finger bones are not connected to the hand bone (though it says they're parented, they don't move when you move the arm armature).
and none of the bones except the aforementioned do anything to the mesh.

As you can see, the Master bones seem to be parented but do not manipulate any of the bones.

Please help.

An error occurred when you tried to import the mhx file. What is the error message in the console window (or if that is blank, in the file python.err in the directory where the MH program is located).

I tried to install the nightly build over the original MH software and screwed something else up now. <sigh>

This is the error message that I get from blender when I try to import my model after pasting the nightly build:

But now, when I try to run MH, I get this error message:

Also, after trying to paste the io_import_scene_mhx file to see if that would solve the blender error, somehow the import/export category in the user preferences for blender is gone. I think I screwed everything up. :(

I then tried to uninstall and reinstall blender to start over but it reinstalls with the same user settings, and the import/export category is still missing.

You probably need a newer blender from http://www.graphicall.org too, or alteratively an older MH.

I'm using blender 2.56. Is there a newer one? I went to graphicall.org and saw 2.56 but nothing newer.

You should probably look at the svn number rather than the official version number. I currently use svn build 35301.

Since neither MH nor blender are in any way stable at the moment, things change a bit too rapidly to rely on an actual release in one if you follow the cutting edge in the other.
