Loading Makeclothing et.al.

Postby Thomas_Ray » Mon May 29, 2017 1:50 pm

It seems I cannot load Makeclothing or any of the three "Blender tools" (1.1) into blender---I must be doing something wrong. I go to the Blender Users preferences window, click addons, click users button and get a BLANK window to the right---which is normal, as nothing is loaded in there yet.

I click install from file at the bottom and see the blendertools folder, this breaks down into Makeclothes, Make target and makewalk folders.---clicking on them gives a whole list of .py files. Am I to select ALL of these files one by one? the folders? just the py file with the makeclothes.py name or what? Anyway whatever I do ehen I press the install from file button on the top right---it goes back to USER window which is STILL BLANK so there is nothing there to activate.----What can I do?

No. Blenders 'Install from file' (at least on windows) seems only to work with zipped archives in my experience. The 3 folders constitute the 3 tools but they are not zipped in the MH subfolder. I suppose you could zip them, but the easiest thing to do is copy the 3 folders (as folders) and paste them in
C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.78\scripts\addons (or its equivalent for your OS). They should appear as addon choices after a refresh.

If you get the tools separately from
http://download.tuxfamily.org/makehuman ... _1.1.1.zip
perhaps your install from file method might work although I haven't tried it.

Well, Since the blendertools files would not load into the addons window, I Simply, DIRECTLY loaded the Makeclothes, Maketarget and Makewalk folders into the . . ./Scripts/Addons files in Blender. It seemed to work, as they showed up in the activation window---HOWEVER, I was easily to "Check" and activate Makewalk just fine, but when I tried to check Makeclothes or maketarget, I got an ERROR window, with some script about lines and an error message " Error: Parent Module not Loaded. Cannot perform relative input."

What's wrong? I loaded ALL THREE of the blender tools folders-----Is there a Makehuman file somewhere that STILL needs to be loaded? BTW I saw no references to any makehuman files or inputs on the blender add on activation window before this---Seems to me an earlier Blender version had a selection for makehiman inputs.-----Any Ideas how to load a "PARENT MODULE"?

Just to be clear, you added the folders as folder and not as individual files? I believe you mentioned copying individual files previously. If so, did you delete them?

Also, make sure you have not left residuals of your previous efforts in: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.78\scripts\addons [Note that this is typically a hidden folder] Replace 2.78 with you Blender version if it is not 2.78

Old versions of Blender had the no longer supported .mhx plugin installed. This has been removed in the latest Blender I believe. mhx has been replaced by .mhx2 available separately from Thomas https://bitbucket.org/Diffeomorphic/mhx ... downloads/ There was never a Blender install for Makeclothes, MakeTarget, or MakeWalk.

There is a video tutorial that shows exactly how to do the install:

Hmm, I just skimmed through it and I'm not sure what has changed. If you just extract the blender plugins zip file directly into the addons folder it should work. I copy and pasted the four folders to avoid having the licence and readme files but they won't hurt anything and you can just remove them after the unzip. Then go into the user preferences and do the enables. That worked when I did it with 2.77 and 2.78 versions of Blender, so if it doesn't work for you, and you are using one of those versions, then the problem isn't with the install procedure being outdated. What version of blender are you using? I wonder if some files got in the wrong places as you tried the different ways to install and are now causing problems. If you haven't otherwise customized Blender the easiest thing is probably to remove and reinstall blender and then try copying the folders from the zip file. It's worked for hundreds of people so there must be something particular to you.
