How to save a .obj file

Postby ogfd129 » Tue Dec 27, 2016 3:23 pm

Ok guys please don't make fun of me as I'm new to the 3D world. I hope I'm posting this in the right topic area. I have already watched a ton of youtube videos and read a ton of webpages but nothing seems to explain what I'm doing wrong. I have downloaded MakeHuman 1.1.0 and Its awesome. After playing around a while I decided to download some stuff from the user contributed assets from the make human community. However every time I try to save the files with (save target as) the files will save as a HTM file and not at OBJ file. Both the .mhclo and .obj files do it. I cannot change the file type at all. I have attached a pic of what I'm talking about to better illustrate what I'm trying to say. Please any help would be great, its driving me crazy!

Thank you

Don't worry, the aim here is to be helpful.

This is a known problem which you are not the first to run into. It is a problem with your web browser (probably IE or Edge?), which makes assumptions about file extensions. The quick fix is to use Chrome or possibly Firefox.

In chrome, you get a checkbox for overriding the behavior:

Alternatively, there is a more ideal solution: Install the plugin for downloading assets from within makehuman instead.

* Go to https://github.com/makehumancommunity/community-plugins
* Download the repo as a zip file
* In the zip file find the directory "makehuman"
* Copy everything in there to the "plugins" directory under where you installed makehuman

You will then get a "community" tab with a GUI for downloading assets.

Possibly I should write FAQ items for both of these approaches, since the question pops up now and then.

Thank you guys for your help! I downloaded Chrome and it fixed my problem. I am looking forward to learning more and returning the favor someday.

on a side note with firefox (and i think maybe chrome) there is an addon called "download them all " that can be used to cleanly download groups of files

BE CAREFUL USING IT ON SMALLER WEBSITES

but in your case it would be best to use the community plugin since it makes sure the stuff goes in the right place
