Combining Generated Meshes?

Postby SmilingCat » Wed Sep 30, 2015 1:20 pm

Is there a way within MakeHuman to have the export combine multiple generated meshes into one and use a texture atlas? Or must this be done through a separate tool?

Having individual animated meshes for different pieces of clothing and such is adversely affecting the performace of my game. Right now I'm needing 7 Skinned Meshes in Unity for a modestly clothed character, and would love to get that down to one or two.

This is something that MakeHuman cannot do automatically yet.
It's something that I have considered in the past, but I haven't really worked out something for it yet.
I too find this an interesting feature for game exports, but the problem is that it usually needs to consider which shaders will be used to combine texture maps optimally. Not something that is easy to decide by the software, because the purpose of the user is unknown.
We want to keep the MH user interface simple, so it's not a good idea to add a lot of options concerning texture atlassing in the export gui either.

So yes, for now you'll have to use some other software like Blender to create texture atlasses, but I recommend this. For example, if you use a clothed character, most of the body will be hidden, this part of the skin can be dropped from the textures.
