Makehuman 6 to 0.9.1 RC1

Postby Hauken » Thu Aug 23, 2012 6:10 am

Hello,

I'm new to Makehuman and downloaded it in hopes to use the skeleton export ability (not to be confused with armature for poseability). I found out that it is not in Makehuman 6, but is in 0.9.1 RC1.

Because I cannot import my Makehuman 6 model to 0.9.1, I was wondering if there was a script or a way to do this. I opened the files up in a text editor and each only saves a page of data for the most basic models. If there is any arithmetic I may perform by hand to get the needed measurements and edit it manually, that is most certainly a doable option.

In short, I want to convert .mhm to .bs, open it in 0.9.1 and export; but keep only it's skeleton and use version 6's skin. For that reason, the measurements must be exact or as exact as possible.

This is just a guess since I don't have the details, but I am pretty certain that the base mesh has changed rather significantly from 0.9.1 to the current branch. Thus the topologies are different and there is no *easy* way to convert between them.

It would probably be faster to re-do the models by hand in 0.9.1 than try to figure out how to convert them. However, since the mesh has changed, the UV layout won't be the same, and the skins from the current branch won't apply.

Thanks, I've fooled around in the 0.9.1 version a bit more and I think I've matched it up as good as I can get it for the most part. I still need to work on the arms, but I don't think that will be too difficult. It looks like the ribs on the older version don't curve as much as the chest when viewed from the side and spine is a little flat.

Looks a little out of synch, but I think that has more to do with muscle rather than bone.

The truth is, I would have had to do this all from scratch if I hadn't found out about the older version, so I am grateful for what I can squeeze out of it. I guess I'll have to tweak the ribs in Blender or use them as a reference from which I can recreate them to suit the version 6 body.
