It would certainly be more popular amongst the Blender community if it was all made with open source software. I view it from the angle though that there is a strong place for commercial and open source software to work together, which I think strengthens the appeal of open source software showing that it can be used for professional applications/projects. I will be using Photoshop and and After Effects heavily in this project as well so would need to learn Gimp etc to go fully open source but I've bought my Adobe software so wouldn't want to do that...

I've not had time to fully learn sculpting in Blender yet and Sculptris is good but limited.
