Blender Hair Dynamics with collision

Postby Rhynedahll » Wed Nov 16, 2011 2:38 am

I recently came across a patch on Blender.org that adds collision to hair dynamics.

This is a test using a standard MH export.

For those that are interested, the patch is out of date and two hunks must be adapted and applied manually. I compiled this for Win32 in MSVC++ 2008 Express.

I encountered no problems running Blender with the patch, but particle hair is very sensative and Blender likes to crash on my system if I try to rush it.

Very good. They seem to work fine.
Best,

I like it. You will find you can achieve even better results if you add a small Force Field to the body. If you add clothes you will need to add it to them also.

Thanks!

I'll give it a try. :)

I've done some more work with the Hair Dynamics and Collision.

Particle hair is finicky as it is, but with collision, it's doubly so. I beleive at some point I will be able to use it in a production animation, but at this point, getting the right settings seems to be a matter of luck.

I do believe that it's ready now to be used in stills, if anyone is so inclined.

Nice. That looked a whole lot better. My concern is, at the end of the animation, was that the wind or a force field keeping the hair away for the body?

That's the wind. I'm experimenting with the "wind blown look" as I would like to use it in a short film, one of these days. The female character will be standing on the bridge of a moving ship, so I'd like to use the hair dynamics in that context.
