Finally, I'm about to complete something I've been working on. I know that the Makehuman crew needs my contributions to match their designs, and so I've come up with the skullcap concept; I copy the head mesh, duplicate and separate it, then solidify the mesh. When I do, I create a vertex group called 'scalp' that doesn't change from the original head, only the extruded (solidified) section of the mesh does.
That way I can create any kind of hairstyle, and it always fits the model.
