model face skin gets stuck

Postby klettr » Sun Jul 13, 2014 1:42 pm

Hi all.
I have this problem, i have been trying to understand why it happens or how i can fix it, but i have not found anything, not even a reason, so i am here to ask help from you.

So what i want to do is i want to riggify moldel in blender on my own.
What i do is:
1. open MH (1.0.1) then click on "Pose/animate" then i choose random rig (another thing that i dont understand is if i choose "None" from "rig presets" then blender says that it has 263 bones and in "edit mode" i see only 40+- of those), then click "Files"-"export". format MHX and then export (i dont choose option " export for rigify" because i want to do it myself)

2. open blender- import model- go in "edid mode" then i delete all bones i see (i am sure that there is a faster way but i dont know it.) so blender says " bones:0/0". i am happy at this point :P

3. i click on "object mode" and Shift-A selecting: Armature-human(Meta-rig) then S to scale it up, then : Crtl-A to fix Scale.

4. Back to "edit mode" to move bones as they need to be, i also delete few finger bones, i need 3 bones for finger only.

5. back to "object mode" click on "armature propertis" scroll down and last1 "rigify buttons" has only one button "generate" i click on that. Then i will remove meta-rig.
Then i select model and shift click on new rig (that what i just generated), with those selected i click Ctrl-P and select "with automatic weights".

6. at last i go in "pose mode" Everything works well except head, what happens you can see below

Image

now i have noidea why that happens, but i have to say that every time i start all over again then end result is different, i have had a right cheek and nose tip with chin tip

once i had that Image

as you see in this time it did not "freeze" in its own position but when i moved it left befind (strongly)

i have done a part 5 a bit different i have selected another rig with model, i get it if i shift click on a layer (in default its not selected)
Image

red marks a layer
that way i get some green rig.
anyway result is same

i have re-installed a blender, to be sure, but nothing changes. i have been using a blender only a month, so i am not a good with it, but if anyone can help me here, tell me what i do wrong or something.

i can make good horror pictures in that way

It appears that eyes and mouth insides are not rigged. What I want to know is if the same goes for the eye and mouth helpers: are they not rigged either? If yes then it's a data definition error, otherwise it's a bug in rigging proxies.

EDIT: having a second look, it appears more likely that the jaw and eye bones are not inheriting the orientation of the head bone.

This one deserves a ticket on the tracker, BTW.

It's a quirk that only applies to the MHX exporter. If you select no rig it will try and use the MHX rig. I believe you can still change it in the exporter settings.

first 2 pictures are with one model, with that model "mouth insides" is stuck at its position (does not move at all)
and third picture is another model (everything is done same) but result is different the "mouth insides" is not stuck, but does not move along with whole head, it moves , but not as much it should.
eyes are not rigged (i seem to forget to remove eyes every time i export model from MH).

anyway i made another Go, with same model, but just started all over again and this time we can see that "mouth insides" moves as it should but 70% (or so) of face does not.

Thanks manuel and Duststorm

i will keep trying

edit: did a test with no eyes and result is same, not same as on pictures but similar (its different every time)

Klettr,
Better reading your post, this bug is NOT so related to MakeHuman.

You import the base mesh, DELETE the MakeHuman rigging and try to link it to a new Rigify skeleton, from scratch.
So it's a problem that happen in Blender, during teh automatic linking.

Have you tried to delete all the vertgroup from MakeHuman mesh, before parent to rigify?
Also why do you delete the bones in edit mode? Better to unparent and then delete the whole skeleton in obj mode.
Then delete all vert groups that are n the MH mesh and try the parent from scratch.

I completely missed that important detail.

In that case, sure, it's not a MH bug.

Manuel, you are right, it is a vertex problem.
So what do i do to fix it.

Following my first post in this topic,
step 2 (Thanks for tip Manuel) ""unparent and then delete the whole skeleton in obj mode.""

2.1 delete all vertex groups.

following step 3 and 4 (after first time i did save meta-rig (as MH Pose), so i dont have to play with it every time )
after step 5

6.click on model , go on "edit mode" select "head" vert. then click on "C" and "paint" missing part. (its good to display model in wireframe mode)

7. check all other verts, some may have too much area or not enough (like face had)

thats it, in that way it works for me. I made several tests (5 or 6) it did not work once of those times, not sure why, vert was all good, did delete head vert and made it agan, but still did not work, but i dont stress about that.

Thank you very much for helping Manuel.
