June '15 Contest Contribution: "Liberty vs. Justice 2015"

Postby grinsegold » Mon Jun 15, 2015 3:43 pm

Since this month's topic is emotions, i tried to make my little allegory of our society as harsh as possible while not getting too much into pornography or explicit violence. Actually, there are three emotions in it: the merciless greed of us who possess, the pain of those who don't, and the furious anger of those who can't accept that we don't seem to be able to level out the wealth globally. It's an accusation, and i wouldn't be surprised if some people got offended by it, but hey, art isn't always convenient, right? And isn't being offended an emotion, too?

The characters (Liberty, Justice and the sprayer) are made basically in mh and posed/edited in blender. Thanks to CG Textures for the texture "BronzeCopper0044" and to Anthony Robinson and dafont.com for the font "Anti-Everything". HDR's for lighting and as background from hdrlabs.com ("MonValley Lookout" for lighting and "Etnie skatepark" for the clouds). Rendered and post-processed with Cycles.

I like the way the letters in "makehuman" can be regarded as the beginning of some meaningful, revolutionary exclamation.

I hope that my picture will leave traces in your brains.

Knocking on the border a bit, but very creative. :-)

And a nice render, especially when viewing the image full size.

This submission is truly problematic. It is easily the best in terms of technical execution, but it is the very last image that you want prospective users/clients/partners of Makehuman to view.

The truth of it is: Makehuman is 'going uptown', that is, becoming an established open-source app that many developers won't be able to do without.

This kind of sophomoric humor--good as the technique is--is not what MH needs as its 'best face forward'. :(

Well, I'm not going to start suggest censoring art for being a bit crude.

It's an excellent piece technically, and being provocative is part of what art is about.

(And, I have to admit, I was amused most of yesterday because of the sentiment... I'm that immature. :-) )

This is brilliant. Very strong statement. Visualized in a drastic way, but hey: You get the message immediatly. And this is all you think about. At least I don't care about the technical aspects of this image, but just its impact.
