Vasculature and Muscles

So, I have a question:
I want to be able to add the effect of popping veins on some of my more muscular renders.
Does anyone have any advice?

My tip is to make a detailed normal map. This can then be used in a mhmat material that can be used across models.

You will likely want a resolution of up towards 8192x8192 in order to show small details such as veins.
