Blender Modeling question: skin pores, HOW?

Postby SaltyCowdawg » Sun Nov 24, 2019 7:30 pm

I've tried sculpting them in (what brush?) I've tried bump maps and displacements and all sorts of things but I just can't seem to get pores correct.

How do others make that work? I know it would help my models look less like Barbie and Ken dolls.

My best attempt is this https://youtu.be/ft_cDUR4x4I

Depending on size of character one will have to play around with settings a bit.

It wont beat a carefully made bump map, but it will reduce the plastic look of the skin a bit.

Maybe this video might be helpful to create Pores, Wrinkles and Veins.

It is recorded in German but you can switch on English subtitle.

This technique uses alpha textures to add these kind of stuff.

whoah! That's exactly what I've been looking for.

Too bad the last time I understood German I was 7 years old... subtitles help though.

The guy who runs this site and I think is the main man in regards to Makehuman put up a blender file which was his attempt to create skin pores - or a more realistic skin. I've been experimenting with this, by appending the node group into Blender and then blending the PBS node shader with the skin shader. Furthermore, and quite by accident, I was working on my Khan Noonien Singh model - for my 3rd movement within my larger audio-visual symphonic experiments - I attached a leather node and combined all three to create what I think is a great 1st attempt at getting Ricardo's craggy skin. I have attached an image file to this post. As I say, this was an 'accident' and I haven't had a chance to go back and refine the process yet. I've been modeling porn stars lol. I needed a hot woman for Kirk's love interest in my AV symphony which is a Star Trek piss take. Porn stars are also good for full body modeling lol!!

Again, I will endeavour to do a how to vid soon. Remember lighting is important in the overall final look of a scene and model too.

I hope that helps. And if image doesn't work - let me know and I will post somewhere else.

Funny,

The topic of Captain Kirk and his wanting to stick his <censored!> into anything that moves came up today. I look forward to seeing this production. :-D
