Measurement limits

Postby EnterTheWhatever » Sun Feb 24, 2019 7:35 pm

I often need models for real humans. Usuallly I ask them to give me the measurements from makehuman.
But if I enter the numbers the upper and lower limits are most often too restricted, either I cannot enter
small or large numbers. I am pretty sure I get the right numbers from my customers so why does makehuman
not want to model real humans? Is there a hidden parameter I am overseeing?

First thing there is no repeat NO correlation between real world measurements and MH's internal parameters the internal one are a value between 0 and 1 and is a indication of how much of a particular target is applied the measurements are calculated form the final resulting mesh they in no way generate it.Using the measurement Tab will always be an approximation.

So, if I enter 60cm for the waist circumference it's not 60cm? Bummer!
Any suggestions for a free program/project which actually uses the numbers I enter to a certain accuracy? It's quite important for me.
I am kind of ****** if I don't find such a program.

I have a feeling you are not going to find an Open Source/free solution at all though the Valantina project which is an Open Source clothing pattern system might be of help for you,the commercial apps are just too expensive for small business use after all a single seat licence for MAYA starts at $7000.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Valentina is for drafting patterns but I need the 3d model. I already have a software to unfold it and then Valentina is unnecessary.
If I stop eating and drinking for some months, I could afford Maya though.

The only way to measure distances between two or more given vertrices, which comes to my mind, is to use the blender addon "MeasureIt", but you will have to add up the values manually, if you want to find for example the waist circumference or the arm length. Or you can create a ruler in blender and put it directly on the mesh to find out limb lengths etc. I know it's not the best method, because you can't change the measures of your model in blender without reimporting it from makehuman, but at least it shows the real values.

Thank you for the information about Blender, but I will just go with the makehuman approximation and then adjust the measurements later by hand when I have cut out my 2D patterns. It's work intensive but currently I have lost interest in finding an adequate solution from the PC/software side.

I was messing around with DAZ 3D and the Measure Plugin, but finally got a refund because it was so horrible and didn't work for me. Luckily I got my money back. There were some other users which confirmed that the tool has a very limited range of use.
