Installing Blendertools for Modeling Clothes Video

Postby Robitron » Thu Feb 08, 2018 5:30 pm

I made this video to help with installing the blendertools into blender so that you can model your targets, clothes and walks. I hope this helps and if I'm mistaken, please let me know. This worked for me.

NOTE:
I noticed that according to the wiki page, the addons folder is supposed to be in the ...appdata/roaming... folder branch. This is not the case in Windows 10 (at least on my laptop). I pointed this out in the video but just to make it clear, if you can't find the addons folder in the above mentioned branch, try looking for it wherever you installed blender on your system.

For me, the path is C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender\2.79\scripts\addons

Hi Rob that appdata path is right but Microsoft does not allow seeing it by default more it's dangerous to allow the user to see what is really going on Corporate Think ;)

Yeah, I know it's hidden and so I clicked the "show hidden" option and was able to go all the way through the path but when I came to scripts, there was no addons in it. But in the blender folder when I installed blender, I could follow the path all the way to the addons folder and it works there.

I know it used to be in the appdata folder but for some reason it's not there for me.

Yeah the addons folder is not created on install try using "Install from File" on the tab Addons tab of blender's User Preferences Window or create it in explorer and drop the addon folders to it then you have to enable them on the Addons tab and save settings BTW it's not created on Linux either ;)

It works great till you upgrade to the next version of blender then you have to do it all over again instead of using the link on the blender splash panel that copies all your addons and presets settings to the new version blender expects your installed addons to be in the appdata path at least that's what the blender documentation says. But then I have gotten into the habit of keeping system data and user data separate from my days using main frames

Oh, that makes sense. It should probably be noted in the FAQ then that the addons folder will need to be created if it doesn't exist or did I miss that? Thanks for the clarification.

You can do that edit yourself as the FAC page is just a standard wiki page you need to log into it though and the addons folder is not created as part of the initial blender install though the install from file button on the addons tab of User Preferences will do that for you if you don't like going under the hood of Windows OS :?

Hi and hope all is well in China. Apparently, I did not do it the correct way so you're not missing anything in my video. Instead, check the links to install the Blender Addons on the download page and follow the instructions. I don't have another site that I can upload the video to anyway.
