Anime Character Rigging with Hair Physics Tutorial

Postby Freehunter » Mon Dec 18, 2017 4:49 pm

I thought I remembered a recent question about animating hair, but I can't find it. This tutorial was not about a Makehuman character but a scratch built character mesh. I'm not up to this level in Blender so didn't test. Thought others might find it helpful to spark some ideas. It does go into weight painting. Also using a deform mesh for clothes. The first half of the series is on the armature for the character. The second half of the series is on rigging the hair.

Daniel doesn't seem to use a script so sometimes he gets ahead of himself and has to make corrections. This does point out some potential mistakes someone might make.

How bangs were rigged (the videos for rigging the hair did not include the bangs, there is a brief description from 1:27 to 4:21)

This also mentions "preserve volume" option on the "armature modifier".

I haven't gone through all the videos, but it is worth noting that you can parent your hair rig to the body rig in Blender 2.7x :geek:

You can parent a rig to a rig? Sounds interesting. Do you parent to the root bone or any bone you select?

I parent the root bone of the hair rig to the root bone of the body rig so all the hair moves with the body, while the strands are independently animated. It's not terribly complicated to set up for those who have a moderate understanding of rigging, but it can be quite tedious to animate realistically.

I do it the same way.

:D So now, we're ready to tackle this:
