Hand and finger motion-capture tracking

Postby devrich » Wed Feb 18, 2015 12:45 pm

Is it possible to somehow use some way of motion-capture to capture hands/finger movements and rotations? ( also to apply these to the same hand/finger rigs used in the MH models?

You could use a LeapMotion device for this.

LeapMotion + Faceshift has been used here: http://slsi.dfki.de/

OMG! That's Brilliant! :D

How would I make it work with the MH characters? Would I just use LeapMotion to record mocap then apply the mocap to the hands of the MH characters in my 3D program? or?

Something like that, yes. MakeHuman exports rigged characters, it's up to you to connect it to controllers to handle data from the LeapMotion device. I don't have such device so I cannot do my own tests. But if you want to share your results, I'd be glad! :)

I'm putting on my "to buy as soon as i can splirge for it" list :-D

I'll see what I can do with it in the coming months and make a tutorial for: "Leap-Motion-Hand/Finger-Tracking__TO__MH-Rig" or something like that; don't know what 3D program i'd use to do it in but i'll probably wind up using blender ;)
