Simplyer Character Creation with MH

Postby lostchao11 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 8:46 pm

MH is a great peace of software but at times its interphases can be tedious. All those sliders for every separate muscle group, though they are necessary. Wouldn't it be simpler if you could just click on the model and drag your mouse in a direction and see the result. It certainly would save a lot of time. Here is an example skip to 56 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4Lw_GVnSeM .other ex here skip to 4:19 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DJVkmcOcaE. if make a human was like this i believe is would be much easyer and faster to make great unique looking charaters. if you think this is a great idea post. May be one of the devlopers will see :P just thought id speak my mind. Id like to thank the MH team for this wonderfully peace of software.

It was partially implemented in one of the experimental versions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0aZdc-4V_M
It's still uncompleted, and it has low development priority, because users complain about "too much freedom".
Many people reported that such a tool is hard to use, and they prefer sliders to have the perfect control of parameters.

In game characters, like the examples you linked above, there are usually only few types of people, so it's more easy to develop a freehand tool, because the limited range of cases, but in flexible human modeler, it can't have constrains, and this makes it powerful, but also more difficult to use.

Also some people complain that MakeHuman is not a sculpting tool, but a parametric software.
I think they are right.
Anyway if we find the way to include constrains in it, we will implement it.

Ah i see looks like its moving a vertex with proportional editing on if this where blender. Is there any ways to acess the shape keys for the MH model in blender? thanks for you time. :)

Shapekeys are removed from 1.0 because they were not perfectly stable. We are working on a new pose system: https://vimeo.com/97096194

About your initial proposal, I'm thinking that it can be possible to study an alternative interface that use the existing targets.
I'll talk with other members of MH team about the feasibility of it.

My impression is that shape keys tie MH to Blender, and therefore limit the number of software applications that can make use of MH's new advanced features.
It would be good to do a statistical analysis of the user base at this point in MH development to determine where in the workflow MH fits at present.

When it comes to interface changes, I would suggest some sort of survey to see what kind of hardware MH users work on; it might be that a game console would be better than mouse-and-keyboard for a new interface. I tried this long ago in Blender with a Saitek P880, and it was a marvel to use in terms of accuracy.
